Whether #BlogHer16 is your first conference or your tenth, sometimes we all feel like a #BH16Newbie. There will always be attendees we haven’t met yet, activities that everyone seems to know about - except you - and that nagging little voice that whispers, “Am I doing this right?”

Well, rest easy. Our BlogHer events team is on a mission to make the conference as inclusive and accessible as possible – we’ve got your back.
Map out the sessions you want to attend in advance.
Session topics range from technical tutorials to blog ethics. Choose according to your blogging goals or entrepreneurial objectives. And don’t be afraid to skip one if another opportunity presents itself.
Know your goals.
Are you there to meet other bloggers, network with sponsors/brands, improve your blog, work on your writing, and be inspired? Be clear on what you want to get out of your two days and don’t get distracted by what other people are doing. This is your time: make the most of it.
Strike up conversations.
Lots of them. If it feels like everyone is talking to someone else, just walk up, smile and say hi. Introduce yourself. Everyone likes meeting new people, and this is a perfect opportunity.
If walking up to an involved group feels awkward, look for someone not talking to anyone. She may be at a table, along the wall, or standing away from the crowd. And always, always introduce yourself to the folks sitting near you in panels, with your business cards at the ready. They’ll make great, friendly faces at meals later, and you never know where your budding friendship will take you!
Attend at least one panel each day that you have absolutely no reason to attend - on a subject you don't blog about and speakers you’ve never heard of – just drop in and listen.
There is no greater way to stretch your blogging wings, get fresh ideas, find inspiration to try new things, and grow as a blogger.
Bring business cards.
Yes, you. Bring them. Your blog isn't too small and yes, you are cool enough. You don't need a designer or a clever tagline; you just need business cards with your name, your email address, your blog URL and your Twitter handle. They can be clever, beautifully designed or simple, just make sure to bring them. People will ask you for them. Here's a helpful post on business cards.
Be present and available.
#BlogHer conferences are ripe with professional opportunities, so be open to the experience. Being at the right place (the conference) at the right time (during conference hours) can land you an interview with a major news network, a new writing gig, or new professional contacts.
Dress for comfort as well as style.
When it comes to packing the perfect clothes for #BlogHer16, remember… anything goes, from jeans with a tee to business attire. You’ll want to look nice, but also feel comfortable in your own skin. Choose outfits that let your personality shine through.
Wear comfortable shoes.
Really, truly, comfort trumps fashion at a #BlogHer event because it’s just not fun when your feet are in agony. Pack flip flops just in case!
Join the official “Going to BlogHer Annual Conference” Facebook group.
This is a must-do to stay updated on all the newest conference happenings and meet your fellow attendees before you even leave home. Read this post to learn more about our Facebook group and how to join.
Write about your experience.
Before #BlogHer16, share your excitement and hopes, then write about your actual conference experience when you come home! Not only is it a great way for you to keep the post-conference buzz alive for months after, it's a wonderful gift for your readers who are still trying to work up the courage to buy their first conference pass next year.
Relax.
No matter what you're doing, enjoy where you are and whom you're with.
OK #BlogHer16Newbies - what else would you like to know? And veteran attendees, feel free to chime in with your favorite hints and tips. We’d love to hear from you!
